Body Fat and Your Health

We all want to look good, but other than that, why is it important to keep our body fat in check? 

Excess weight has been implicated in myriad illnesses.   You probably already know that excess weight is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, certain cancers, and even depression.  The statistics are staggering (20 times more likely to develop diabetes according to a Harvard study.)

But to get another sense of what it’s doing on a day-to-day basis, no matter where your body fat is today, try a weight vest or belt.  In order to simulate increased body weight, a lot of competitive athletes of all types will wear a weight vest to get a stronger training effect.  Try one on!  Or if you don’t have access, put 20 pounds in a backpack and climb a few flights of stairs.  It’s hard!  Now wear it for a couple of hours.

Experiencing that does nothing to teach you about how much it weakens your heart, your brain, your digestion, and your blood circulation.  But taking that weight off will give you a slight glimpse into what it’s like to lose weight.  It’s VERY liberating!  It will have a profound effect on your life.
